Customers love PIG Putty for quick repairs, and we’ve heard stories about people using it for everything from tanks to teeth (but we don’t recommend it for that). PIG Putty lasts about 2 years if you store it properly.
If you stashed a tube in your toolbox a while ago for emergencies, how can you tell if it’s still good? Every tube of PIG Putty has a date code printed on the foil seal that’s over the end of the tube. This code is 4-digit numerical string that represents the date of manufacture.
Here’s how to read the list:
The first digit is the year of manufacture. A “2” would represent 2022, a “3” would represent 2023, and so on. The next 3 digits represent the date listed in the format of a Julian Date. “001” would represent January 1st, “002” would represent January 2nd and so on. A “365” would represent December 31st (unless it’s Leap Year!). Here’s a handy spreadsheet for Julian dates — from this, you can determine when your putty was manufactured.
