Sometimes, the type of first aid treatment needed for a minor injury is obvious. But if a coworker is lying unresponsive on the floor, the reason may not be as clear. People who are trained to render first aid are taught a systematic method to determine what may be wrong.
Remembering this triage sequence is as simple as ABC.
For those who have not received formal first aid training, knowing that others are trained — as well as how to call for those trained responders — will help everyone be better prepared for the unexpected.
Use this Toolbox Talk as a reminder for trained first aid responders and as an awareness tool for other employees who may be the first to discover an unresponsive coworker.
Make It Personal: Identify all employees who have been trained to render first aid. Discuss how to contact those responders as well as how and when to call for outside emergency responders.
